Table Top Sale - Smashing Success

On Sunday 24th November the Community Shop group held a table top sale in the Harrowbarrow and Metherell Village Hall. There were 17 stallholders selling a variety of wares which included arts and crafts, and "pre-loved" items.

Despite the strong winds and rain of Storm Bert we had a steady stream of visitors who enjoyed perusing, and purchasing, the goods on sale in the festively decorated hall, and also sampling the delights of our pop-up cafe in the Games Room.

Fund raising ranged from "Guess the number of sweeties in the jar", a forthcoming Community Shop Bonus Ball game, a second-hand clothes sale, to early bird Community Share pledges and donations. We look forward to the Community Share issue next year which should really get the ball rolling on our project.

The total raised from the event was £500

A big thank you to our volunteers who setup and packed away the event, the stall holders, the kitchen and cafe team, and finally Chris, our chief car parking attendant!

Spooky goings on in the Village Hall

The Halloween Pit Stop was our first fundraising event for the Harrowbarrow and Metherell Community Shop. We attracted 15 visitors (both young and old) to take a break from their trick-or-treating around the two villages. The Games room and tables were bedecked with Halloween decorations and the ambient lighting was suitably dimmed.

The organisers had arranged their own trick-or-treats to entertain the youngsters; a lucky dip with sweets and vegetables, munching baby sweet peppers as a dare, and cold, squidgy but healthy, yogurt to try. More traditional tea, coffee, orange and blackcurrant squash, and hot chocolate (with marshmallows of course) accompanied the hot food prepared by the very enthusiastic kitchen team. Suitably fortified the witches and ghouls headed out again for further spooky adventures during the rest of the evening.

Open Day Success

Thanks to all who helped us raise just under £10,000 in donations and pledges.

Thanks too to the Harrowbarrow Primary School whose pupils eagerly took part in designing our new shop.

The photo shows Erin proudly showing her design.
