About us

Tamar Valley Pantry will operate as a Community Benefit Society registered with the Financial Conduct Authority. As a Community Benefit Society it will operate with a committee elected by its members. Members are those who hold shares but no matter the size of share holding each member has one vote.

Our current shop is the hub of the community, the older people that use it like to chat to other customers, and that is perhaps the only contact they have with the outside world all day. We hope the shop, with a small light café area, will give the community access to making friends.

We aim to provide a fully inclusive space that promotes equality and diversity, already in the group we have people mixing that would never normally, and new friends have been made. We feel our community is at a crucial point and already this group has brought people together and the hope is that as a community we will reunite and all benefit in so many ways

We hope to provide a similar service to our existing shop with the Post Office providing facilities part of the week. All generations of the community would benefit, both from buying goods, to also volunteering in the shop to gain work experience, any profits from the shop will be offered back into the community as per the rules of a Community Benefit Society state, so even more people could benefit.

We are an area of market gardens and farming, so we hope to provide an outlet for these and other producers in the area we also have a number of craft and art producers locally who we could support.

Harrowbarrow & Metherell Community Shop is not able to advise members on tax issues and that it will be each investor’s responsibility to make their own enquiries and to satisfy themselves as to their own eligibility to claim such tax relief.
